Breedlink Journal is the editorial side of Breedlink, an app that helps owners in the United States find breeding partners for dogs, cats, horses, livestock and birds. The journal exists for a simple reason: most breeding questions get answered by forum threads and guesswork, and animals pay for the mistakes.

What we cover

Health testing and DNA panels, heat cycles and timing, choosing a stud or sire, stud fee contracts, pregnancy and newborn care, registry rules, state regulations and the costs of running a small breeding program. Every guide is written for people doing the work themselves, from first-time owners to working ranches.

How articles are made

Our editorial team uses AI tools to research current questions and draft articles, then checks every factual claim against primary sources: veterinary schools, breed registries, extension services, government agencies and peer-reviewed research. Each guide lists the sources it relies on at the bottom of the page. Images on the site are AI-generated, labeled as such, and don't show specific real animals.

When guidance changes, we update the article and show the update date at the top.

What we don't do

We don't give veterinary diagnoses, we don't tell you a dose, and we don't promote breeding animals that can't be bred safely. If a guide touches health, it tells you when to call your vet.
